Lissoughter: Days 18, 19, 20, & 21 in Ireland

And so began the 4 day, let me repeat FOUR day, independent mapping...while a little more than half of our camp got placed in Recess (another bog) for mapping, me and some select others were chosen to go mountain mapping again, mapping not one but almost all sides of the mountain, Lissoughter. It was a little daunting from the road as seen below...

however, once I got going it was in general pretty fun getting to explore an entire mountain's geology all by myself...although, I will admit it was definitely a bit lonely at times. Once I put on my Lord of the Rings soundtrack, things got epic.

Day 1 of Independent Mapping
Day 1 started off great, I was moving at a good pace, enjoying the sunny relatively "warm" weather, and getting what I thought was good data until I realized that the quartzite formation and the psammitic schist I was supposed to be distinguishing between looked EXACTLY the same. This lead to half of day of confusion and chaos that finished up with a twinge of apathy...

Day 2 of Independent Mapping
After spending the previous night reviewing lecture notes and doing some research on the side, I felt a bit better about my map and went in today feeling a bit better about my mapping abilities...well until a thick fog set in that made it impossible to see the cliff faces 10 feet in front of you. Today was not as productive as I anticipated.

And then the fog set in...

Day 3 of Independent Mapping
The map made a lot of progress today and it was warm and sunny, which made the summit today that much sweeter.

 Day 4 of Independent Mapping
Despite the fact that this was our longest mapping project yet, I was immensely sad to leave this beautiful mountain. Today was only a half day on Lissoughter followed by an evening of mapping back in Clonbur.

An early finish means mountain sun basking...or baking...

My new obsession. Banana. Nutella. Peanut Butter. Rice Krispies. Only the best combo to man and my lunch for the past 2 weeks.
