Freedom: Day 7 in Ireland

This was the first day we had off from geology and frankly, it was glorious. After a morning run through the Irish countryside, a bunch of us walked into town to have breakfast at Burke's (the local pub we've been going to). I had already eaten a bunch of cheesy, meaty eggs made by our amazing TA, Alan, a little while earlier, so at Burke's I just got an Irish coffee to sip on. Turns out overflowing baskets of bread were brought out with everyone's breakfasts, including this delicious brown bread i'm obsessed with that is all over the place over here. So I had a lot of unnecessary bread to accompany my "coffee". Most people ordered Irish breakfast platters that consisted of beans, bacon that was more like wedges of ham, eggs, and these things called "pudding". However, the pudding is not what you think it would be. Instead it consisted of these sausage-ey weirdly textured patties that tasted of rosmary. I wish I could explain them better or have gotten a picture to illustrate how weird they were, maybe before I leave Ireland i'll manage to get one.

Alan's tea order, the sugar cubes were my favorite part

After breakfast, Hannah and I with a few others got dropped off about 20 minutes down the road to spend the rest of the afternoon wandering around the village of Cong in County Mayo. Here we got to see an abbey from around the year 1200, eat seafood chowder washed down with beer, explore some caves, and enjoy a long walk in the Clonbur woods, excuse the excessive number of pictures, I was having issues narrowing the pictures down to a few...

I'd be really curious to see what happens to this town when it floods...

This happens way too often on way too narrow roads...

Back to mapping tomorrow...at least we're out of the bog!
